Description

Villains from beyond is a collaborative project between Oriol and Guilevi which represents a style of game which has been common in the mainstream world ever since the eighties and the days of Galaxians. Based on the game Xevias, Villains from beyond is a scrolling shooter. Where in a space invaders game enemies descend from the sky trying to shoot you and land, in a scrolling shooter you move continually forward rather as if you were driving a car. In villains from beyond you can regulate your engine speed using the up and down arrow keys and move left and right using the left and right arrows (listen out for the sound of your boosters).

Of course, a large range of enemies are present who want nothing better than to blow you out of the sky. What is unique in Xevias however (and in Villains from beyond as well), is that those enemies can appear either in the air in front of your ship, or on the ground. Ground based enemies need to be destroyed by bombs with the x key and airborn ones of course are ripe targets for your anti aircraft fire with the z key.

Enemies range in style from default flying ships, to ground based turrets, teleporting ships and even the feersom Genesis mother ships who take multiple hits to kill, and who you must be careful not to pass since they generate a forcefield right across the playing field.

As well as some decidedly tough gameplay,Villains from beyond also offers you the chance to mod the game, and to buy unlocked mod packs with credits you earn from successive enemy destruction, and of course the longer you last, and the higher level you reach, the more points, and the more credits you will earn.

With a classic 8bit soundtrack to accompany it's tough gameplay and unique ambience, (at least in it's default pack), this is one sure to get everyone's nostalgic bones tingling. It is also %100 free, and will run on any version of windows.

Created with The blastbay game toolkit The game now is abandonware. Furthermore, since antivirus programs read anything made with Bgt as a virus, you'll need to add an exception to windows defender in order to play the game. Though Oriol only now provides source code versions of his BGt projects on the above page, the audiogames archive do have a fully compiled version of the game, which can be downloaded at the above link.
